Agenda Item: VI.B.

Consider/Approve the System's Race to the Top Scope of Work

Background Information:

As part of the State’s First (Race) to the Top grant, each school system is required to get School Board approval for its Scope of Work. The Scope of Work covers all four (4) fiscal years; however, each year can be amended if necessary. Our Scope of Work proposes to use Year 1 grant funds for distance learning labs, expand curriculum maps, professional development, and for the purchase of certain technology equipment. Greater detail is included in the System’s Scope of Work letter. After receiving feedback from the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE), our Scope of Work had to be modified to provide more specific data concerning the performance measure target. The performance measure targets have been submitted to the TDOE for approval. Based on our latest conversation with TDOE, it appears that our revised submitted plan will be approved. In addition, the System's budget for the four-year Race to the Top Grant is attached for the Board's approval. The budget can be amended over the grant's life if necessary.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the System’s First (Race) to the Top Scope of Work and the System's four-year Race to the Top budget.
